We Hope Everyone Weathered Hurricane Helene Safely

Helping Neighbors and Customers One Stop at a Time

We hope everyone weathered Hurricane Helene safely. While we faced challenges, we’re grateful to have come through it stronger. A big thank you to Boswell Oil for ensuring delivery of fuel for our service vehicles, guaranteeing we could stay operational 24/7.

Hurricane Helene hit Meco hard. Employees endured extended power outages, and our buildings took a beating. Despite the setbacks, our team showed incredible resilience. After a night of hunkering down, they came together to rebuild. We lost the entire front of our warehouse, but our team quickly constructed a temporary wall system to secure the building.

Turning our focus to community support, Meco partnered with Boswell Oil, Kimberly Clark, Site Service, and Gearig Construction to assist the linemen located in Aiken, SC repairing the electrical grid with Storm Services. We provided support in keeping them with a reliable fueling operation. We also customized tanks for local customers and vendors and were grateful for GPI’s reliable supply of GPI Hand Crank Pumps and 12-volt pumps.

Our dedicated service techs worked tirelessly around the clock to restore customer’s gas stations. They tackled various issues, from resetting Point of Sale Systems to repairing dispensers and replacing submersible turbine pumps along with removing water from sumps.

Back at the office, our generator ensured we had lights to be able to work, power for our computer and fridge, and office fans. We assisted customers any way we could with work orders, parts, and any questions they had.
We’re proud of our team’s resilience and our ability to support our community during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone who helped us and our customers recover from Hurricane Helene.

2024 – Celebrating 65 Years of Serving our Customers!

2024 is an exciting year for MECO Augusta & Greenville.  April will bring the 65th anniversary of serving our customers. From humble beginnings of the Futrelle and Scudder families sharing a moving van while relocating to Augusta to currently having two separate locations, MECO of Augusta & Greenville continues to embrace our “Service Makes the Difference” motto.

MECO of Augusta started in April 1959 when Frank Futrelle partnered with Matt Mathews and Jim Nettles while working for MECO of Savannah as an outside salesman.  Frank left the Savannah location with Mike Scudder and moved to Augusta, GA to establish MECO of Augusta. Frank handled the sales while Mike ran the inside operations.

Over the years business grew and MECO prospered. Mike Scudder would eventually leave Augusta to partner with Matt and Jim in the MECO of Atlanta venture. Meco of Florence would form when Rence Woodruff partnered with Matt and Jim.  As time progressed, the MECO group would continue to prosper, and the partners of each location would buy out Matt and Jim.

1986 brought changes to the MECO Augusta family.  Jeff Futrelle took over the business, continuing the MECO heritage after his father passed away due to an automobile accident. Jeff expanded MECO Augusta in February 2001 when he opened a branch in Greenville, SC. Today, ten MECO branches are owned by four of the original group from Savannah.

Jeff would successfully lead MECO Augusta & Greenville until December 1, 2017.  He retired passing the business to his son Franklin, and his son-in-law, Brad Burke.  Together, Franklin and Brad, continue to lead the company forward while upholding the company’s core values of HIT (Honesty, Integrity, Trust) along with always making sure our “Service Makes the Difference.”

We hope our employees will be able to return to the office sometime in July or August. Thank you all for your continued patience and business in light of any changes and

    March Recap & COVID-19 Update

    Dear customers,

Due to the current worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and the increase we see in our area, we would like to convey our plan of action going forward. Our greatest concern is the safety of our employees, their families, and our customers. Currently we are having salesmen and a handful of other employees work from home remotely to increase our social distance. We have increased the cleaning of our office and showroom/customer counter to include sanitizing of doors, workspaces, counters, etc. multiple times a day and after each customer or person comes inside. We are also asking vendors to suspend their visits and deliveries be made outside. Customers for the counter are asked to call in their order and we’ll deliver it via curbside delivery. Our technicians have been instructed to wear gloves at all jobs and to wash their hands regularly during and after each job.

It is our desire and plan that work does not stop but is done in a more cautious manner to keep everyone involved safe and healthy. We have been in contact with our vendors and at the present time nothing has changed with orders or deliveries times. Since this situation is very fluid, we are having to take the situation on a day by day basis. If anything changes, those affected will be notified.

If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Please stay safe and healthy during this uncertain time.

    Sincerely,
    Meco Inc. of Augusta-Greenville
